thicket / Delete your account

Delete your account

You can delete your thicket account, and everything attached to it, at any time. There are two ways to do it, and you do not need to reinstall the app to find either of them.

From inside the app

Open thicket, then go to Settings and choose Delete Account. We send a code to your email address and ask you to enter it, so that an unlocked phone on its own is not enough to erase somebody's account. Once you confirm, the deletion runs immediately.

If you cannot sign in

Email hello@getthicket.app from the address you signed up with, and ask us to delete your account. We reply to say it is done. We will only act on a request that comes from the account's own email address, because that is the only way we can tell it is really you.

What gets deleted

Everything we hold that is about you:

  • your profile, display name, avatar, interests, title, and home base
  • every check in, along with your XP, streaks, badges, and achievements
  • every photo you uploaded, including the image files themselves, not just the records pointing at them
  • reviews and ratings you wrote
  • reports and feedback you sent us, and any crash reports linked to your account
  • your sign in, which is revoked

It cannot be undone. There is no restore, and no grace period.

What stays, and why

Two things outlive the account on purpose, and neither is connected to you afterwards.

  • Parks you submitted stay on the map. By the time a submission is approved, other people are checking in there, and removing it would take the park away from them too. The record of who submitted it is erased, and so is the signage photo you sent with it.
  • Moderation decisions stay in the history of the content they were about. If you reviewed or resolved a report on somebody else's photo or review, that decision remains part of that item's record, with your name removed.

If you owned a group, it passes to another member rather than closing. If you were its only member, it closes.

Backups

Live data is deleted straight away. Our host keeps encrypted backups of the whole database for a limited period, so a copy of deleted data can remain inside those backups until they age out on their own. We do not use backups to bring back individual accounts.

Just want to stop using it?

Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone, including any check in still waiting to sync and the offline copy of the park list. Your account stays as it is, so you can sign back in later. Deleting the account is the permanent one.

Questions

What we collect and why is set out in the Privacy Policy. Anything else, email hello@getthicket.app and a person will answer.
